Question about Mouse settings
No, there doesn't seem to be "highlighting" on for that cursor location. The yellow does look suspiciously similar to the highlighter though! (I could almost swear I saw the yellow highlighter thingy icon flash yellow on and off once but now no more!) 2. The same figure can be copied to other locations in this doc.

icon highlighting...
I would like to emulate the Program Manager concept of the "currenty selected" icon, such that when you do a single click on the icon, the text underneath that icon is highlighted. Windows halts before Desktop Icon displays, no error status
I can do this in xl2002: Tools|formula auditing|trace precedents then double click on that arrow near the tiny worksheet icon. You'll see the Edit|goto dialog. Select the range you want and hit ok. I'm not sure where this is hidden on earlier versions. For xl2k, very similar: Tools | Auditing | Trace Precedents

What it does is invert the BLACK AND WHITE icon, which does not produce odious results. Second, as of the Developer Conference in May, the Human Interface Group had not decided how System 7 was going to integrate color in a number of ways: 1) The issue of how to invert was not finally settled.

Shortcut Highlights
I am still looking for a usable printer icon. Following your write up, I got as far as "... click copy button image." Highlighting the printer image and right clicking on it, I got "What's this" pop up. Where do I find the "copy button" that you mention? I have Windows NT if that matters.
